BRIEF HISTORY Way back in 1975 six members of the Bowling Club, Alec Elder, George Irwin, Colin Griffiths, Barry Childs, Noel Peterson and Laurie Eastough were sitting on a few beers looking out at the beautiful Lake Macquarie and thought it would be a good idea to form a Fishing Club.  That day the embryo of the Gwandalan Bowling Club Fishing Club was conceived. They called a meeting and so our Fishing Club was born on February 15, 1976. Our first Club Champion was Peter Serpant, who has retired and still lives in Gwandalan.  In Peter’s day there was only one category: Whoever scored the most points, whether the fish were caught inside, outside off the beach or off the rocks. Since then new categories have been added, as well having separate categories for Ladies and Juniors.  We have also become affiliated with the Lake Macquarie combined Fishing Clubs and have regular competitions between the six other club’s fortunate enough to be located on the shores of our beautiful lake. We also have bi-annual competitions with the Lake Munmorah Fishing Club.  In March we host them, and we go to their Club House in October.  These are very enjoyable days.

GWANDALAN BOWLING CLUB FISHING CLUB Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit the Gwandalan Bowling Club Fishing Club’s web page. Our Club aim is to foster friendship among our members and guests with regular outings, weigh-ins and fellowship.  Our fishing days are both social and competitive.  We have our own Fisho’s Lodge, superbly located on the waterfront reserve in front of our sponsor’s premises, The Gwandalan Bowling Club.  The Bowling Club has its own jetty directly adjacent to the Fisho’s Lodge. The only prerequisites to membership are that you be a financial member of the Bowling Club and that you abide by our club rules. To paraphrase the old adage, “we are not a club of champions, but we ARE a champion club!”

CLUB INFORMATION The Gwandalan Bowling Club Fishing Club fosters family fishing from both a social and competitive position.   Monthly competitions are on the weekend including the second Sunday of the month and conducted in the following categories: 1. DeepSea 2. Beach and Rock 3. Estuary.  Each of these categories is open to Senior Men, Senior Women and Juniors. There is a monthly point score and also an Annual Trophy for each of the categories. Trophies for the Best of Species are also up for grabs. As well as the main stream competition we have a mid week competition once a month.  This was only introduced during the 2004-05 season and has already proving a bonanza among the retirees and available members. We have a Monthly newsletter, Fisho’s News, which is published after the monthly weigh-in.  It is a very informative newsletter outlining details of both the monthly and the mid week weigh-ins.  It also contains some community news with tit-bits about local identities and sponsors. Friday nights are members social get together events.  These nights, as well as being very social, raise money to help subsidise our Annual Presentation Dinner, Trophies and other outings put on for the members. Membership Application Forms are available from the Club Secretary or in the foyer of the Bowling Club.
